Vegeta has fought everyone — gods, tyrants, and his own rival — across four decades of Dragon Ball. But which battles defined the Prince of All Saiyans? Here are his 7 greatest fights, ranked.
Quick Answer
Vegeta’s greatest battles, ranked: 7. vs Beerus (Battle of Gods), 6. vs Toppo (Tournament of Power), 5. vs Cell (Final Flash), 4. vs Frieza (Namek), 3. Majin Vegeta vs Goku, 2. the sacrifice vs Majin Buu, 1. vs Goku (Saiyan Saga). The original Saiyan Saga duel remains his defining fight — the rivalry that shaped the entire series.
7. Vegeta vs Beerus — “That’s My Bulma!”
The slap heard round the world. When Beerus struck Bulma, Vegeta’s rage briefly pushed him beyond even Goku — a moment of pure fury that showed what the prince could do when fighting for someone else rather than his pride.
6. Vegeta vs Toppo — Tournament of Power
A clash of ideals: the prideful prince against a God of Destruction candidate. Vegeta’s Final Explosion callback — detonating himself to eliminate Toppo — echoed his Buu saga sacrifice, this time with the survival of his universe on the line.
5. Vegeta vs Cell — The Final Flash
Vegeta’s arrogance at its peak, and its price. His Final Flash nearly killed Perfect Cell — then he let Cell reach perfection out of pure pride. The fight that proved the prince’s pride has always been his greatest weapon and his fatal flaw.
4. Vegeta vs Frieza — Namek
The fight Vegeta waited his whole life for — and lost. Beaten and crying, Vegeta begged Goku to avenge the Saiyan race. It humanized the villain and set up everything that followed.
3. Majin Vegeta vs Goku — Buu Saga
The rivalry’s peak. Vegeta sold his soul for the power to face Goku at full strength, and their duel — fought while Buu hatched — was pure Saiyan pride unleashed. It ended with Vegeta knocking Goku out cold and choosing his family over the fight.
2. Vegeta’s Sacrifice vs Majin Buu
The Final Explosion. Vegeta hugged Trunks for the first time, knocked him out to safety, and detonated himself against Buu as atonement. It failed to kill Buu — but the gesture redefined him. Later, battered before Kid Buu, he finally admitted Goku was always number one. Pride became humility.
1. Vegeta vs Goku — Saiyan Saga
The original. Galick Gun against Kamehameha, the beam struggle that cracked the sky, Great Ape Vegeta crushing Goku’s broken body — and Goku’s mercy sparing him at the end. Every Vegeta fight since is a footnote to this one. The rivalry that shaped Dragon Ball started here.
